2017 East End Guide to Water Sports

Summer on eastern Long Island is a utopia for sea-faring individuals. Whether it's a dip in the ocean or a thrilling jet ski ride, the East End has it all. For those of you interested in the more exhilarating ocean activities, we’re here with your 2017 guide to water sports!

Stand-Up Paddleboarding

Want to get a new perspective on the wonders of the East End? Grab a stand-up paddleboard (SUP) and get out on the water! A SUP board looks like a very large surf board, except you stand on it and row — if you’re skilled enough, you can even practice yoga on it. This water sport can be done in both the ocean and still water. So this summer, grab your board and check out these hot spots:
  • Cedar Beach County Park, Southold
  • Cedar Point County Park, East Hampton
  • Fort Pond Bay, Montauk
  • Georgica Pond, East Hampton
  • Indian Island County Park, Riverhead
  • Mecox Bay, Southampton
  • Meschutt Beach County Park, Hampton Bays
  • Montauk County Park, Montauk
  • Northwest Harbor County Park, East Hampton
  • Orient Beach State Park, Orient

Surfing
Ready to hang ten? There are a number of awesome places to catch waves throughout the east end. If you’re new to the sport, be aware that the Atlantic front can be stronger than some other family friendly locations. We can’t predict how the surf will be on any given day, but we can give you a few suggestions on where to start:
  • Flying Point, Southampton
  • Jetty 4, Westhampton Beach
  • Shinnecock Inlet, Hampton Bays

Jet Skiing
