Halloween 2018 Safety Tips

Halloween is only five days away — and your little one is already gearing up for the big day! Sure, they might be a pro a trick-or-treating, but there are some precautions that all parents must take before the candy collecting begins. If you’re not sure where to start, then we have a few helpful tips to share!

Make Reflective Costumes

One of the most significant safety trends, in recent years, is to adorn reflective tape to your child’s costume. This is one of the best ways to make sure that your little one’s outfit stands out when crossing the street and walking around the neighborhood. If you’re not sure where to start, it’s actually pretty simple to add some reflective elements.

First, you’ll want to visit your local home improvement store and pick up some adhesive reflective tape. Next, take your child’s costume and stick the tape in vertical strips up the pant legs and arms. Once complete, you’ll have safety-proofed your child’s Halloween costume!

Trick-or-Treat in Groups

Want to create one of the most fun experiences for your child and their friends this Halloween? Then we highly recommend getting a group of parents together to piece together a giant trick-or-treat group! This will not only be the perfect way for your children to collect candy together, but it will also be a simple way for parents to supervise their little ones as a whole, rather than just one adult taking on the sometimes difficult task.

Always Check Candy

The most important tip in Halloween safety? A candy check. Sure, it might be tempting for your child to dive into their trick-or-treat bucket for a treat — but it’s also somewhat risky, too. To eliminate any potential dangers, it’s best to establish a rule with your child that they can’t eat any of their candy until you examine each piece.

Bring Flashlights

Another important tip is always to make sure that you have a flashlight with you. Of course, many neighborhoods are illuminated — but there is a chance that some walkways might be uneven. To prevent any falls, it’s best to give your little ones flashlights, too, encouraging them to shine them at the ground as they walk.

If you want to take it up a festive notch, then you can certainly turn this into a fun-filled game, asking your children to see if they can spot any pumpkins, ghosts and other festive decorations as they walk around with their flashlight; we’re sure they’re going to love that!

How to Throw a Halloween Party on a Budget

Fact: Halloween is one of the best times of the year to throw a party! Whether it’s held with a large group of people at a venue or with a few friends at your house, there’s always room to make some boo-tiful memories — but what if you’re on a budget? Here are some fang-tastic tips on how to throw the best celebration for less!

Keep it Simple

Looking to go over the top with your festive Halloween decorations? If that’s the case, then it’s usually best to keep your design on the simpler end of the spectrum. Sometimes overdecorating can be rather costly and make your party too “busy” in appearance.

The best bet? Find some simple decorations that can really tie the space together. One of the best spots to find party essentials on Long Island is Party Glitters of Hauppauge! This place is your go-to independently-owned party hotspot and will have everything you’re looking for! From utensils to decorations, you’ll be able to find it all at this incredible store with ease!

Bring On the Food

Another essential staple of any party? The food! Of course, it would be simple to hire a catering company to handle this task at your event — but that can be rather expensive. The solution? Visit one of your local wholesale stores to get your essentials. Of course, you need to have a pre-existing membership, but typically signing up is rather inexpensive.

One of the best spots to purchase your goods is at Costco of Melville. This will be the best way to get a large variety of food at a fraction of the cost! Think about it: you can just pick up a few appetizers, followed by an entree-sized meal and you’ll be good to go! The best part? You’ll usually have leftovers that will last you for the next few days!

Carpool Together

Holding your Halloween party at a restaurant or venue? If that’s the case, then it may be wise to carpool with your guests. Think about it: you’ll be saving gas while arriving at the same time! The perfect solution is to reserve a ride with Dynasty Limousine!

Whether it’s a large group of people or only a few handfuls, we’ll able to transport you and your guests with one of our impressive limousine fleets! From 27 passenger shuttle buses to a 20 passenger Cadillac Escalade Limo, there’s an option to accommodate any party!

New York City Village Halloween Parade 2018: Pro Guide

When the streets of Manhattan are filled with vampires, witches, and ghosts, it’s evident that the annual Village Halloween Parade has arrived! Whether you’ve attended this legendary event every year or plan on showing up for the very first time, there are a variety of incredible sights to see! If you’re looking for a “cheat sheet” for this year’s parade, then here’s what you need to know:

Overview
This year, the legendary Village Halloween Parade will be celebrating its 45th Anniversary in style! The parade will be held on Wednesday, October 31, 2018, on Halloween and will start sharply at 7pm.

The parade will span the entire length of 6th Ave. (Spring to 16th Street) and it’s highly recommended that you take a subway to the event — since there will be no parking in sight. For specific subway instructions and which lines to take, the parade’s official website breaks it down in full detail!

Theme
If you’re not sure what to go as this year, then the parade suggests you dress up as (drum roll, please) a robot! That’s correct: each year, the committee sets a theme that attendees can follow — but definitely encourage every guest to wear whatever costume they desire!

The inspiration behind this year’s theme is loosely based on Mary Shelley’s legendary book Frankenstein. Since the novel will be celebrating it’s 200th anniversary this year, the committee wanted to take the subject of human vs. monster into a new direction: robots. So, whether you plan on dressing up as R2D2 from Star Wars or Johnny 5 from Short Circut, the possibilities are endless!

Pro Tips
Just like the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the annual Village Halloween Parade can be quite overwhelming — since there will definitely be a crowd. If you’re planning on attending for the first time, then here are some tips to consider:
  • Don’t be late: Give yourself enough time to commute to the parade route.
  • Stay in a group: Since it will be crowded, it’s essential that if you go as a group to stay as a group — since it will be simple to get split up.
  • Bring water: As you guessed, since the sidewalks will be packed, it may be difficult to find a food cart or store to purchase some water. Therefore, it’s essential to bring your own!
  • Have fun: This is one of the most significant, most legendary events in New York City — plus, it’s Halloween! Have a grand time watching this wonderful parade!
