Halloween 2018 Safety Tips

Halloween is only five days away — and your little one is already gearing up for the big day! Sure, they might be a pro a trick-or-treating, but there are some precautions that all parents must take before the candy collecting begins. If you’re not sure where to start, then we have a few helpful tips to share!

Make Reflective Costumes

One of the most significant safety trends, in recent years, is to adorn reflective tape to your child’s costume. This is one of the best ways to make sure that your little one’s outfit stands out when crossing the street and walking around the neighborhood. If you’re not sure where to start, it’s actually pretty simple to add some reflective elements.

First, you’ll want to visit your local home improvement store and pick up some adhesive reflective tape. Next, take your child’s costume and stick the tape in vertical strips up the pant legs and arms. Once complete, you’ll have safety-proofed your child’s Halloween costume!

Trick-or-Treat in Groups

Want to create one of the most fun experiences for your child and their friends this Halloween? Then we highly recommend getting a group of parents together to piece together a giant trick-or-treat group! This will not only be the perfect way for your children to collect candy together, but it will also be a simple way for parents to supervise their little ones as a whole, rather than just one adult taking on the sometimes difficult task.

Always Check Candy

The most important tip in Halloween safety? A candy check. Sure, it might be tempting for your child to dive into their trick-or-treat bucket for a treat — but it’s also somewhat risky, too. To eliminate any potential dangers, it’s best to establish a rule with your child that they can’t eat any of their candy until you examine each piece.

Bring Flashlights

Another important tip is always to make sure that you have a flashlight with you. Of course, many neighborhoods are illuminated — but there is a chance that some walkways might be uneven. To prevent any falls, it’s best to give your little ones flashlights, too, encouraging them to shine them at the ground as they walk.

If you want to take it up a festive notch, then you can certainly turn this into a fun-filled game, asking your children to see if they can spot any pumpkins, ghosts and other festive decorations as they walk around with their flashlight; we’re sure they’re going to love that!
