Sand Miners Monument

Did you know that Port Washington is home to one of the last remaining sand mine shafts on Long Island? The monument, which features three sand miners standing above the entrance, is dedicated to those who helped create the famous New York City skyline through local sandbanks. Nipper is still in tip-top shape and proudly displays a Plesser’s name tag, too. It’s a great sight to see, especially while walking the streets in town!
