Autumn is the best time for apple picking — no questions about it! If you’re looking for a great way to spend your weekends, and you’ve already gone pumpkin picking for the umpteenth time, then we highly recommend you visit these sensational spots to pick some of the best apples on Long Island!

Having been a staple of Long Island since 1978, Harbes has been the go-to autumnal spot since! Still known as a family owned and operated destination, this is the prime spot for to pick up some freshly grown apples! Offering over 27 apple varieties to choose from, Harbes will be the prime destination for all your autumnal foodie needs. In addition to a great selection of apples, Harbes offers rides on the Apple Express — which takes patrons to the best, ripest apples on their land!

Spot 2: Lewin Farms

Looking for a traditional apple picking experience like no other? When visiting the property of Lewin Farms, you’ll be picking the finest apples while experiencing some the greatest nature sights. Known for being in proximity to Splish Splash and Tanger Outlets, this Calverton hot spot also offers other fruit picking sessions for other months, such as Strawberries in May/June and Peaches in July/September, to name a few.

Spot 3: Fort Salonga Farm

Address: 30 Meadow Glen Rd, Northport, NY 11768
Hours: Saturdays and Sundays, 10am-2pm
Note: it’s $20 per adult and ONLY pickers are allowed to go into the orchard.


Home to the famous “dwarfed” apple trees, Fort Salonga Farm is the perfect place to spend the day apple picking with the family! These dwarfed sized apple trees, approximately 18” from the ground, are small enough for children of any age to get in on the apple picking action! Besides being a family friendly “pick your own” orchard, there are times when it will close — since sometimes they run out of apples. Regardless, this is an incredible spot to pick Fuji, Mutsu, Jonagold (to name a few), apples on Long Island!
