Where to See Seals on Long Island 2019

One of the best kept secrets on Long Island is that you can go seal-watching (yes, you read that correctly). Believe it or not, you can see these incredible creatures in your own backyard, just like the locals in La Jolla, California! If you’re looking to see some seals in the wild, here are some great, humane ways to do that:

Freeport Water Taxi
Location: 211 Woodcleft Avenue Nautical Mile, Freeport, NY 11520

Right in the heart of Freeport happens to be this wonderful water taxi. This fantastic service offers seal enthusiasts two-hour tours to see these incredible aquatic creatures in the wild. Of course, there is no guarantee that you’ll see a vast abundance of these mammals on the day of your tour (they’re wild, of course), but it will indeed be a beautiful sight to see on Long Island. The tours are offered throughout the fall (October-November) and spring (March-April) — but usually stop at the end of April, since the seals will start to migrate.

Captain Lou’s Seal Watching Cruise
Location: 31 Woodcleft Avenue, Freeport, NY 11520

Another great spot to check out is Captain Lou’s Fleet, which offers their famous Seal Watching Cruise! Guests will be able to hop on board a boat and will bask in the glory of this seasonal treat! The Seal Watching Cruise lasts about two hours, and just like the Freeport Water Taxi, it’s never guaranteed how many seals you’ll see in the wild because they’re not domesticated animals. For Captain Lou’s fleet, you’ll want to book your cruise fast, since April is the last month to take up this incredible opportunity until the fall!
