Independence Day will be here much sooner than you think — and it’s time to start planning for the big day! Whether you’re going to a party, hosting a barbecue, or heading to see fireworks, there are many different ways to celebrate this incredible holiday! Of course, there are also some safety precautions that everyone should take into consideration, too. Here are a few (of many) to keep in mind:
Don’t Drink and Drive
We cannot stress this enough: if you plan on drinking at a friend’s party, do not drive. If you need a ride, have another means of transportation to get to the party. Whether that’s a designated driver who’s attending the party with you, or one that is not attending with you, always have someone else who is not drinking (nor planning on drinking later on) to take you to and from the location. If you can’t get a ride back home, your host will be more than willing to let you stay the night and stay out of harm’s way.
Stand Far Away from Fireworks
It can be rather tempting to get the perfect photo of fireworks about to launch, but if any fireworks are being launched in the street or near your home, make sure to stay far away from their launch site. Sadly, there are too many occurrences where a firework will take flight in the wrong direction and can cause serious harm. Just remember: when in doubt, stay far away.
Stay Cool and Hydrated
Hosting or attending a Fourth of July party during the day? If that’s the case, make sure to stay cool and hydrated all-day-long. It can be rather easy to forego any sort of protection from the sun or not to drink any water — but that can be extremely dangerous, especially if temperatures continue to rise. Just remember to wear sunscreen, sit in the shade, and always have a bottle of water nearby!
