Small Steps to Starting the Wedding Planning Process

If you’ve recently gotten engaged and are reading this, congratulations! Now, onto the fun part of the newly-engaged process: planning your wedding! Whether you’re looking to tie the knot rather soon or in the next couple of months (or even years), there’s a lot that goes into wedding planning. Sure, you can hire a professional to do the job for you — but there’s only so much they can carry out (i.e., they won't know who/who not to invite to your wedding).

So, if you find yourself frantically scrambling this early in the game, take a deep breath and follow these helpful tips to make the process much more relaxing:

Pick a Date
This might seem like the most straightforward tip, but it’s also the most important. Before you start running around to various venues, it’s essential to pick a date (or season) that would work best for you and your partner. Once you have something in mind, take the proposed date and run with it. This will help make the search for a venue much more straightforward; you’ll be able to eliminate those that cannot accommodate your ideal date or season!

Secure a Budget
Now, one of the more “scary” parts of the wedding equation: solidifying a budget. Of course, if you opt to hire a wedding planner, they’ll be able to help you stay within that ideal budget — but if before you even contact one, think about how much you’re willing to spend on the big day. Another way to factor how much you’ll spend is to think about the possible venues you’d like to have your wedding at and how many people you’ll tentatively invite.

Draft a Guest List
The moment you’ve been waiting for has arrived: creating your guest list! Indeed, this is going to be a rather tricky task — especially if you’re a social butterfly. However, you have to keep in mind your budget and the possible venue you’ll have your big celebration at. When creating a “draft” guest list (before the real deal), always start with family members, first. Next, move onto close friends, followed by close co-workers and so forth.

Think About Transportation
