5 Savvy Ways to Travel On a Budget

Going on vacation can be quite expensive, no matter where you visit. From the flight, to the hotel and amenities — it’s easy to lose track of how much you’ve actually spent. Although vacationing on a budget may seem like a dream, it actually can be a reality. Want to have the time of your life without breaking the bank? Check out these money-saving travel tips you’ll wish you knew about sooner:
Tip #1: Start Reading
No, we’re not talking about reading a novel while walking around (although you can, if you’d like), but to purchase a travel guide. Although most would rather decline this option, many travel guides are filled with money saving information to help you get the most for your money. In addition: most travel guides are cheap to purchase and are pocket sized.

Tip #2: Eat Locally

This may sound like an oxymoron in terms of traveling, but it’s actually a money-saving tip worth knowing. Although you may feel inclined to eat at well-known grub spots, eating at  a local hotspot instead will save you some dough. After all, most big name restaurants raise their prices tremendously because they know tourists flock to their joint frequently.

Tip #3: Go Against the Grain

Plan on visiting a tourist hotspot around a big holiday? While that trip might make for the most Instagram-worthy photos, it’s not worth the stress of paying more out of pocket. When booking your trip, think about planning your trip for a week that doesn’t fall around a major holiday that’s local/global. You’ll be saving more money than you could ever imagine!

Tip #4: Bring On the Green

Although you may be getting rewards by using your credit card, paying with cash is better. Besides avoiding fees by using plastic, physical currency will be much more universal (and cheaper to use). In addition: by using cash, you’ll avoid the chance of having ~mysterious~ fees added to your monthly statement, too.

Tip #5: Don’t Go Alone

Even though you may be inclined to go solo, bring a friend. When staying at certain hotels, it may be cheaper to book a single room with two beds than book two separate rooms. Think about it: you and your travel buddy can split the cost of the room, and any additional amenities you may encounter.
