How to Repurpose an Old Pumpkin

When autumn rolls around, there’s a strong chance that you’ll adorn your home with a fresh array of pumpkins. And while these might look stunning with their bright, cheery demeanor, there will come a day when that golden-orange hue will begin to fade away. When this happens, many will toss their pumpkins into a nearby trash can — but there are some great ways to repurpose them!

The Art of Repurposing a Pumpkin

Feed Backyard Wildlife
Do you happen to see wild animals parading around your backyard? If so, you could always feed them with a carved pumpkin since it will make it simpler for wildlife to get inside and eat the seeds. Of course, if you wouldn’t be fond of cleaning up any leftovers, then this wouldn’t be the best solution for your yard.

Make a Snack
If you’re a fan of pumpkin seeds, then this tip is for you: cook them! To start, take an uncarved pumpkin and scoop out as many seeds as you’d like. Next, wash the seeds in your sink as you would with fruit and produce. After that, take the seeds and let them dry by shaking them — not by wiping them down.

Once dried, lay them on a baking sheet (which should be oiled) and then toast them for about 30 minutes. Once the timer goes off and the seeds cool off, you’ll have a new, autumnal snack to feast on!

Bake a Pie
You knew this one was coming — with an uncarved pumpkin, you can make your very own pumpkin pie! Whether you’re a pie baking pro or this is your very first time, there are plenty of easy-to-follow recipes online that will walk you through the process with ease.
