When you think South Carolina, Charleston or Myrtle Beach may come to mind. But when we think South Carolina, we think of a tucked away Blue Ridge Mountain town — where the food is great, the landscape is gorgeous and the people are the epitome of polite.
Such a town exists, you ask? You betcha. Greenville, South Carolina — one of the fastest growing cities and for good reason. Only a short two hour flight away, here are 4 reasons why you should take a trip to see what all the fuss is about.
Such a town exists, you ask? You betcha. Greenville, South Carolina — one of the fastest growing cities and for good reason. Only a short two hour flight away, here are 4 reasons why you should take a trip to see what all the fuss is about.
1. Booming restaurant scene.
Bring your appetite, downtown Greenville is known for its many restaurants of nearly every type of food — from traditional to eclectic. Don’t know what to start? Check out Linda’s “Tasty International Tapas” Crawl and sample some small plates from Roost Restaurant, Soby’s New South Cuisine, Halls Chophouse, The Lazy Goat and American Grocery Restaurant.
2. Inspiring art galleries.
Art museums, street art, local galleries — Greenville is a thriving arts scene. Go on a Mouse Hunt to spot all the Mice on Main then head to the Greenville County Museum of Art for one of the world’s largest collections of works by Andrew Wyeth and Jasper John.
3. Picture perfect scenery.
The name is Greenville after all, so naturally you can expect to find beautiful trees and a picturesque landscape even in downtown. The Swamp Rabbit Trail is a biker’s dream — a 21-mile, paved path running alongside the Reedy River south of the city, through downtown and up to Travelers Rest (another perfectly named town). Rent a bike from Reedy Rides or Bike the Rabbit and take a cruise one sunny afternoon.
4. Annual Festivals and Events.
With more than 300 “event days” each year, chances are you won’t have a problem finding something to do. Check out the full list of happenings here, and some standout ones in the coming months below:
- Greenville Heritage FCU Main Street Fridays: Presented by Pepsi, this weekly music series takes place every Friday from March 17 to September 29 on Main Street at NOMA Square, beginning at 5:30p and concluding at 9:30p.
