3 Vineyards to Visit in Eastern Long Island

It’s officially wine tasting season — as if we needed an excuse to enjoy fine wine! Whether you’re a Long Island native or just visiting, make it a point to head out to the east end this summer to have your fill. Once you plan your trip, be sure to stop at our top three vineyard picks!

  1. Sparkling Pointe: Long Island’s sparkling wine-only vineyard, Sparkling Pointe offers guests the opportunity to sit back and relax while enjoying breathtaking views of the grounds. Though we may not be in Champagne, France, you can get a taste of fabulous sparkling wine right here on Long island with the staff is committed to hospitality and wine education.

  1. Lenz Winery: Established in 1978, Lenz Winery is one of the most mature vineyards on the east end. With impeccable service from friendly and knowledgeable staff, the tasting room is open year-round, seven days a week. In addition, they host special events throughout the year — like their 9th annual Dinner in the Vines, coming up this August.
  1. Vineyard 48: Looking for more of a party atmosphere? Vineyard 48 has got you covered with wine slushies, sangria buckets, and an awesome DJ spinning the hottest jams. On some weekends, you’ll even find delicious food trucks on the grounds slinging scrumptious creations.

Wine 101: Wine Body Guide

Long Island's Premiere Limousine Service
P: (631) 587-8500

“I want something dry, but not too dry.” Ordering wine tends to sound a lot like this - but, it doesn’t have to.

Correctly ordering a specific type of wine all starts with understanding the different wine styles. So before your next wine tour with Dynasty Limousine, we thought we’d help break down some of the most common white and red wines for you.

Full-Bodied Red Wines
Full bodied red wines have more tannin - a bitter-tasting substance, higher alcohol, and dark fruit flavors like black currant. These wines pair perfectly with bold-flavored foods such as barbeque, Mexican food, and various red meats. Examples: Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec.

Medium-Bodied Red Wines
In between full and light, medium red wines are known as the best “food-friendly” wines. Due to regional differences, the wines in this category will vary in tannin, acidity and red fruit which in turn will create many different flavors. Medium-bodied red wines pair well with spiced and roasted meats, hearty vegetables, and strong flavored spices - cinnamon, fennel, and cumin. Examples: Zinfandel, Merlot, Barbera.

Light-Bodied Red Wines
Wines in this category are much lower in alcohol - perfect for people who don’t want to actually feel like they’re drinking wine. They also have very subtle flavors including a lighter tannin and brighter acidity. These wines pair well with risotto based dishes, chicken and other poultry. Examples: Pinot Noir, Lambrusco, Gamay.

Light-Bodied White Wine
Words like, dry, crisp, and tart are all associated with light-bodied white wines. They are usually best enjoyed within a year or two of the vintage so you can fully enjoy the fruity flavors and high acidity. Light-bodied white wines are best paired with seafood, sushi, salads, chicken, and other poultry. Examples: Albariño, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio.

Rosé Wines
The mid-point between red and white wine, these wines are dry and typically served chilled. Rosé wines are most frequently produced in the south of France, the Spanish eastern coast, and in Italy. Rosé pairs well with fried chicken, roast pork, Mexican food, and Green and Turkish cuisine. Examples: Grenache Rosé, Syrah Rosé, Tempranillo Rosé.

And there you have it! While you may not become a wine sommelier overnight - at least you are well on your way. With all the vineyards and wineries that Long Island has to offer let Dynasty Limousine help create the perfect wine tour that fits your wine style and palette! Wine Tasting Theme Parties

Long Island's Premiere Limousine Service
P: (631) 587-8500

Call over all of your friends and pop open the bottles! Whether you’re an experienced sommelier, or a first time sipper, a wine tasting party is both a social and educational way to experience new types of vino.

Planning your next fête? Here are some tasting themes you must try!
Blind Wine Tasting. Serve up some excitement by pouring your guests different wines with the labels covered, and let the guessing begin! Much of our judgement of wines is influenced by the region, knowledge of the producer and even the price. A blind wine tasting party allows you to asses the quality of the wines without being biased.

Wine Scoring Party. Wine scoring parties allow the tasters to share their opinions and spark a conversation about wines in a comfortable environment. Score cards are handed out, where guests rank the wines in different categories like appearance, aroma, body, taste and finish.

Wine Tasting By Region. Transport yourself to the French countryside (or your exotic destination of choice)! Really explore your wine region of choice by pairing the wines with local foods and decor from that area. Comparing different wines from the same region is an interesting way to see how their styles differ.

Vertical Wine Tasting. A vertical wine tasting party pairs several of the same wines, from the same producer or vineyard, across several different vintages. This type of tasting is helpful in getting a feel for a particular winery’s composition, and shows you how weather patterns may affect the taste of the wines over the years.

Horizontal Wine Tasting. A horizontal wine tasting provides insight into the characteristics that are unique to a specific vintage. These wines can be from the same wine region or from different regions around the world. Trying out all different wines from the same year, is a great way to determine what styles of wine you typically prefer.

Want to sip with your friends without the hassle? Forego hosting a party and join us for a trip to the vineyards. Call us today and we’ll set up a fully customizable wine tour for your next outing. We provide our customers with luxurious limousines and/or limo buses which can accommodate a party of 2 to 30 guests to the East End of Long Island for a day of relaxation and fun. If you've headed out east before, you're likely familiar with the vineyards and their offerings - but are you aware of the new wines coming out this season?

Check out the list below for a sneak preview, then reserve your ride with us and explore what new varieties Long Island Wine Country has to offer:

Prepare yourself for three new vintages this summer, including two of their 2014 Northern Solstice Blends (the Ros
é with notes of watermelon, strawberry and hints of cotton candy and the Blanc with hints of pineapple and other tropical fruits) as well as their new vintage of Northville Blanc, a blend of 65% Chardonnay and 35% Viognier.

Sparkling Pointe
39750 Middle Rd, Southhold
On Saturday, July 25th from 1-6pm, head to Sothhold’s Sparkling Pointe for their 6th Annual Carnaval Celebration! The event celebrates the second release of Cuv

Wolffer Estate Vineyard

é, Summer in a Bottle. Following its success, they are also releasing Summer in a Bottle White. In July, visitors can expect to find a new rosé from the Wolffer Estate vineyard in Mendoza, Argentina called the Finca Wolffer Rosé 2015. Plan for a Sunday Funday at Wolffer, Sundays on the Terrace takes place from 9a-1p offering a brunch service with rosé mimosas and cider cocktails, not to mention this vineyard offers live music, yoga in the vines and other special events throughout the summer.

To help you get in the party planning spirit, we've rounded up some tips to ensure a successful trip to the vineyards:

  • Select your favorites - With all with vineyards and wineries Long Island has to offer, you won’t be able to visit them all. Only put the places you absolutely must visit on your list.
  • Stay on one fork - Trying to visit locations on both the North and South Fork in one day is difficult. With the bulk of the region’s 50+ wineries located on the North Fork, hoping between them is a breeze! The South Fork, on the other hand, has only three wineries - though visiting Wölffer Estate Vineyard and Channing Daughters is well worth a day trip.
  • There’s an app for that - Yes, you guessed it, Long Island Wine Country has an app available for iPhone and Androids! Search vineyards, events, dining and accommodations in the Long Island Wine Region. With Geo-mapping, you get a map location for all listings and you can share your trip, create favorites, and search all listings. The app is updated daily, so information is always fresh and new!
Once you have a general idea of where you want to go, one of our expert wine tour representatives will handle the rest. For more information on our Winery Tour Packages or to make a Reservation please call 631-587-8500 today.
