#TravelThursday - MTA Approves Fare and Toll Increase

Long Island's Premiere Limousine Service
P: (631) 587-8500

As many New Yorkers have already heard, there’s not much good news on the horizon where the MTA is concerned. The board approved a 4% fare and toll hike to go into effect on March 22nd. Soon, a single subway or bus ride will cost $2.75 and the LIRR and MetroNorth fares aren’t safe either.

Also, if you haven’t jumped on the EZPass band wagon yet, drivers who use cash for tolls will need to dig deeper than 4% increase as they will see between a 6.7% and 10% rise in cost.

"If Governor Cuomo and members of the legislature don't decide on new revenue sources to fund the MTA's five-year capital plan, larger fare increases are lurking around the corner," John Raskin, executive director of the Riders Alliance, said in a statement to Time Out New York.

Planning, organizing, prioritizing - easy to keep front of mind at the start of the New Year. With 2015 in full swing, any bride-to-be this year can attest, there sure is a lot of planning on the horizon.

From seating arrangements to vendor scouting, planning a wedding is equally exciting as it can be stressful. No wonder a weekend filled with champagne, your girls, and what-happens-in-[destination] stays there memories is always looked forward to.

See below for some tips for planning the ultimate bachelorette party (courtesy of Lauren Conrad and The Bach):

Choose a city - This is your weekend away with your closest friends by your side. Pick a place you love to visit or even a city you’ve never been to (but always wanted to go). Create a list of possible destinations with their pros and cons to narrow it down!

Pick a theme - Do you prefer a relaxing spa weekend or something a little wilder? Maybe a mix of both? Either way decide on what you’d want to do and head to The Bach to view a list of spas, salons, restaurants, clubs, and activities in the city of your choosing.

Create an itinerary - Let your guests know what you plan to have going on each day and at what time. This will help your guests plan their routines (shower and prep time) as well as what to pack. Leave room for some downtime should anything else come up!

Once you finish the above and send out the invites, take care of your transportation. Whether you’ve decided to stay local or head out of town, start your weekend off in style with Dynasty Limousine. We’ll drive you around the island, city, or simply to and from the airports.
Contact us today for availability.

#WeddingWednesday - Off-Day Wedding Trend

Long Island's Premiere Limousine Service
P: (631) 587-8500
Is Monday the new Saturday? Weeknight weddings seem to be all the buzz in the celeb world. Recent newly weds Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden exchanged "I Dos" just last Monday, Scandal star Kerry Washington also wed her San Francisco 49ers cornerback on a June Monday, and British groom Eddie Redmayne tied the knot roughly a month ago on, you guessed it, Monday December 15th.

So what's the appeal? Celeb and civilians alike are leaning towards an "off-day" wedding for a variety of reasons:

  • Booking your dream venue - within your budget - Venues often book up during peak weekend times so the allure of a discounted Thursday, Friday, Sunday or even Monday matrimony is hard to pass up. Not only do you still get your wedding at your dream venue, but you'll save on costs per guest.
  • Securing your favorite vendors - Perhaps your favorite photographer is booked every Saturday during the month of your wedding. Or the DJ your friends rant and rave about has too many gigs scheduled. Choosing an off-day wedding can open up possibilities to secure any and everything you need, like our entire Dynasty Limousine fleet for your bridal party and guests ;)
  • Keeping things low key - Some couples simple choose an off day because it is more low key and takes the pressure off. This can especially be true for celebs wanting to stay out of the public eye.
  • Going out of the box - The opposite of low key, yes, some want their wedding so personal and unique they choose to marry in unusual places and on uncommon dates - including holidays like New Year's Day.
  • You can keep the party going - Having a Thursday night wedding can allow you to extend the celebration through the weekend. Guests can also often find good flight prices and rental car options if they are from out of town.
  • Sentimental significance - Perhaps you want your wedding to be on a specific day - exactly 4 years since the day you met, your anniversary date, etc. That special day doesn't always fall on a Saturday.
Couples should however keep in mind, weeknight weddings can make it difficult for all of your guests to attend. Experts advise giving guests as much advance notice as possible and provide any details on logistics that would be beneficial for them (flight deals, hotel room costs, etc).
Dynasty Limousine has been the ideal choice for brides and groom in and around the Long Island area because we combine an impressive fleet of immaculately kept luxury vehicles with professional and experienced drivers. If you have any questions about renting the right transportation for your wedding party’s needs - give us a call at 631-587-8500.

Keeping Up With Your New Year’s Resolutions While Traveling

You’ve done it! Day 13 and you are committed to your new and improved fitness routine. But wait, what’s that? You have a business trip at the end of the month? Know majority of your free time will be spent on your commute? So now what?

Whether you are heading out for business or for leisure, traveling can easily wreak havoc on your workout routine. But not to worry, these smart, simple exercises below can easily be done on the plane, train, or in your Dynasty Limo airport car.

While Seated - make use of your ride to and from the airport with these seated moves:

  • Seated Crunch Twists: Gently pull your abdominal muscles in towards your spine and place your hands behind your head. As you exhale, bring the opposite elbow to knee and come up to a tall seated position between sides. Complete 10 crunch twists on each side.
  • Marching: Begin by crossing your arms across your chest. Bend one knee and bring it up higher than 90 degrees while your other foot remains on the floor. Alternate your legs as if you are marching and trying to maintain a quick pace. For a great challenge, attempt three sets of 30-50 reps.
  • Seated Knee Lifts: Sit towards the front of your seat with your knees pressed together and back straight, grabbing the front of your seat. With your core engaged and knees locked in at a 90 degree angle, life your legs towards your chest (no slouching!). Lower your legs but don’t touch the floor until you’ve finished a set. Do three sets of 15 - 20 reps for a real burn.

While Standing - waiting in line for the bathroom? Looking to utilize the aisle space? Try some of these moves:

  • Lunges: Stretch your hip flexors and lower back with some forward lunges. Add some resistance by holding your laptop bag or briefcase as a weight.
  • Single Leg Stand: Keep one foot firmly rooted to the floor, and lift the other a few inches into the air. Hold for 20 seconds and repeat on the opposite side, do three repetitions on each side.
  • Wall Sit: Best done during a pit stop or in the airport/train station. Keep your knees shoulder width apart and bent at a 90 degree angle, pressing your back and head firmly against a wall. Hold it for a minute, or as long as you can. Try three reps.
If you don’t have the time or energy to hit your hotel’s gym after a long day of traveling, the above moves can also be done in the privacy of your room. Now there's no excuse not to try to keep up with your New Year's resolutions while traveling!

Dynasty Limousine is available for pickups and drop offs at all of the major New York Airports including, JFK, La Guardia, Mac Arthur Airport and for most private airports including Farmingdale Executive Airport. Beating the Post Holiday Slump

Long Island's Premiere Limousine Service

P: (631) 587-8500
Whether you had a long holiday break or just a few days off before the New Year, leaving caroling and eggnog behind to return to a mounting pile of work can be downright depressing. The post holiday slump, especially when coupled with biting temperatures (and this am’s snowy commute), can easily affect your mood and your work performance. But with the right attitude and plan of attack, you’ll be out of your funk in no time:

Don’t stress your resolutions - Changing your normal habits and daily routine overnight can be easier said than done. If you included frequenting the gym, eating healthy, and omitting alcohol on your list of new year’s resolutions, don’t stress if you mess up a day. Ease yourself into it, as long as you are recognizing what habits need to be changed to live a healthy lifestyle and making even SMALL changes, you’re already on your A game.

Don’t Over-commit - Time to play catch up. Don’t overwhelm yourself by committing to too many meetings or new projects. When scheduling client meetings or in office touch bases, spread them out throughout the month. Give yourself additional time to prepare work by extending your deadlines (instead of saying I’ll have this to you tomorrow, make it the end of the week).  Give yourself some brownie points by finishing it earlier!

Don’t be afraid to take time off - Yes, you heard us right. Remember one of our previous blog posts? The US Travel Association found that only 77% of US workers actually use their full amount of paid time off. If you are one of those people that find yourself wasting vacation days that don’t roll over, take a day this month or next to relax, do something you want to do but rarely have time for, or go on a mini getaway for an extended weekend.

Plan a night out - The days leading up to the holidays may not always allow for special one on one time or date nights. So now that you don’t have a house full of guests and the wrapping paper has been packed away, plan a night out with your significant other. What better way to get past the post holiday slump than with a night out to dinner or a show in a chauffeured car, from Dynasty Limousine of course!

As you transition into post-holiday life, remember it’s OK to take time for yourself whenever necessary. Whether it’s a night out with your spouse, your whole family, or just a couple of good friends, let Dynasty Limo take care of your transportation needs. Start the New Year off in style, call and request a quote today (631) 587-8500!
