2018 Jones Beach Light Show: Pro Tips

The holiday season is officially here, and what better way to celebrate than with some holiday lights! That’s right: the Magic of Lights show is back at Jones Beach this year and is better than ever! Whether you’ve attended this spectacular annually or this is your first year, here are some essential pro tips to know before going:

Show Details

  • Currently running until Sunday, December 30, 2018.
  • Dusk until 10pm, Monday-Thursday & Sunday; Dusk until 11pm, Friday-Saturday.
  • Held at West End at Jones Beach.
  • Weekdays: $25 (per vehicle) Weekends: $30 (per vehicle).

Pro Tips

Weekdays are Better

Thinking about attending the light show on a weekend? Sure, that might be a tad more convenient — but it’s actually the most inconvenient time to go, believe it or not. Think about it this way: when you’re going during the week, there’s less of a crow, since many will hold off until they’re off from work. Plus, with fewer crowds, you’ll be able to take your time during the show — and not rushing.

Go Early

Are you set on seeing the show after dinner? Well, it’s better to go before supper because you’ll not only beat the crowds, but you’ll beat the chances of waiting on line to purchase your tickets.

Purchase in Advance

Did you know that you can purchase your tickets in advance? If you happen to do this, instead of paying at the gate, then the show will only cost $20 — no matter what day you attend the show! To purchase your tickets in advance, visit Live Nation for more information!

Don’t Delay

Thinking about going closer to the holidays? Well, you won’t be the only one with that idea — which will lead to more lines of light show traffic. If you’re looking to keep your experience stress-free, then it’s best to either attend the show before the big holidays arrive or after they’ve left!

Winter Wedding Hacks 2018

One of the most popular trends in 2018 is to have a winter wedding! Whether it’s held at the beginning of the season or closer towards the spring, there are a variety of different ways to celebrate the big, snowy day in style! However, if you’re looking to de-stress some of the smaller details on this monumental event, then here are some ways to do so:

Plan to Arrive Early

When you opt for a winter wedding, you’ll already be going into the planning stage knowing that there’s a chance that snow could fall at any second. Of course, you can’t control the weather — but you can plan accordingly.

Even if there’s a chance of a light snow shower for later on in the day, it’s best to arrive at your ceremony/reception space as early as possible. This will not only help you beat the rush of a potential storm, but you’ll feel much more at ease knowing that you won’t be late on your big day.

Bring Options

Granted, you might want to rock a beautiful pair of heels on the big day — but if there’s ice on the ground, then wearing this specific type of footwear won’t be the best choice. The solution? Plan on bringing two pairs of shoes on your big day.

If you’re not sure what to bring, then it’s best to opt for footwear that has a flat, rubber sole, which will keep you slip-free when entering/leaving a venue. Of course, once you’re inside, then you can put on your special heels and dance the night away!

Provide Blankets

Think that some of your wedding guests will be a tad cold during the ceremony? If that’s the case, then it’s best to provide some wedding blankets on the big day, since some venues lack heat — or are just drafty in general. Indeed, you don’t have to invest in designer duds — but you can purchase blankets, in bulk, from an online retailer for a reasonable price!

Why you Should Use Airline Mobile Apps

Are you going on a trip soon? If that’s the case, did you remember to print out your plane ticket? Better yet, do you know what gate you’ll be boarding at? Although these are completely normal thoughts to run through any traveler’s mind, there is a solution: an airline mobile app. Not sure why you should download one before your trip? Here are some perks:

Early Check-In

Are you racing at the last possible minute to get to the airport and check-in for your flight? Well, instead of rushing through traffic, you can merely check-in anywhere from 24-48 hours ahead of time on an airline mobile app. Not only will this put your mind at ease, but it will ultimately expedite the process for you once you arrive at the airport!

Digital Ticket

Frantically looking for the digital ticket kiosk or dread waiting on a long line? If that’s the case, then an airline mobile app will let you download a digital boarding pass at your fingertips. This is not only the perfect solution to acquiring your ticket at a fast pace, but it’s also ideal for those that tend to lose important paperwork since you can save most digital passes to your phone’s camera roll!

Chat a Representative

Have a pressing question that you need to ask your airline, regarding changing your seat or the time of your flight? Of course, you could always call them and be placed on hold — or you could use your airline mobile app to “text” a representative directly.

Believe it or not, many airline apps offer an instant messaging feature that will let you speak with a representative in real time, almost as if you’re chatting to a friend. Not only is this extremely helpful, but it will definitely give you the stress-free experience you’ve always dreamed of!

Helpful Thanksgiving Tips to Know

Surprise: Thanksgiving is only a few days away — but are you prepared for the big day? Whether this is your first time hosting this glorious holiday at your home or your twentieth, there are a few tips and tricks to get ready before the first guest arrives! Not sure where to start? Sit back, relax, and feast (pun intended) your eyes on these fabulous tips:

Create Place Cards

Sure, this might seem more appropriate for a wedding or sweet sixteen, but creating place cards for your Thanksgiving table is the best way to create a stress-free environment for all that attend. Of course, you could let your guests decide on their own — but then that leaves room for error, since some family members want to sit near each other and not on opposite sides of the table.

Tidy Up the Day Before

Running around your home trying to pick up stray socks? To eliminate the rush and embarrassment, it’s best to start cleaning your house the day before. Not only will this be a great way to make sure everything looks presentable, but you won’t be struggling at the last minute trying to vacuum the staircase — which isn’t something many homeowners do on a daily basis.

Design a Menu

Afraid you might forget to make a dish or two? If that’s the case, then it would be wise to create a custom menu for the big day! Of course, you don’t have to go to the local print shop and have a restaurant-worthy menu created — but even creating a list on your phone will be more helpful than having nothing at all. This will not only keep you organized, but it will also help you eliminate anything that might go uneaten (we’re looking at you, brussel sprouts).

The Dos and Don'ts of Carry-On Luggage

Ah, the joys of packing for a trip! Sure, it might seem simple to bring your necessities — but when you’re utilizing the perk of a carry-on bag, then packing might become a struggle. Of course, there are a series of regulations (rightfully so) when it comes to packing this courtesy bag — but what can and can’t you bring with you? Let us explain:

Don’t Bring Over 3.4 Ounces

One of the biggest tips we cannot stress enough is carrying liquids that are under 3.4 ounces. Indeed, if you happen to ignore this rule, then your possessions will be tossed by TSA with no questions asked.

If you do feel as if you can’t survive without a specific grooming product or cosmetic, then you will have the option to either purchase it after the security check at an airport shop, or you can wait until you arrive at your destination and purchase the item at a local convenience store for half the price.

Do Carry an Extra Bag (If Allowed)

Believe it or not, many airlines are now allowing passengers an extra carry-on bag, in addition to their overhead suitcase. Of course, it’s important to check with your specific airline — but many will allow passengers to bring either a briefcase, backpack or tote bag to store under the seat in front of them.

This is the perfect solution for those that might bring back an abundance of souvenirs or might tend to over-pack. Additionally, if you’re going for a short trip, then this will be the best solution to save a few dollars on a checked bag!

Don’t Over Pack Your Suitcase

Sure, it might seem fine when you leave your home — but if your carry-on is broader or heavier than what’s allowed, then you will be forced to check-in your carry-on bag. Of course, the simplest solution is to check a bag — but then there is always the possibility that it could cost a pretty penny if it’s rather heavy.

Do Measure and Weigh Your Bag

If you’re fearing that you’ll have to check your carry-on bag, then it’s essential to measure and weigh your bag before your flight. To do this, you’ll want to visit your airline’s website and see what dimensions they’ll allow for a carry-on bag, in addition to bag weight.

Once you acquire this information, take a tape measure and measure your bag empty, followed by weighing it empty on a standard scale. Once you pack the bag, then measure and weigh it again. This will give you peace of mind, knowing that your carry-on will be good to go!
