Before You Head to the Beach, Bring These Items

One of the most popular spots to go and unwind during the summer is the beach! When living on Long Island, it’s not just a location, but a way of life — and we wouldn’t have it any other way! Besides knowing where to go and find your favorite spot in the sand to “set up camp,” there are a few things you should pack before you leave for the seashore. While some of these items might be a “given,” here’s a friendly reminder of what to carry with you:

Money + Identification

While you might have these items with you in the car, many beachgoers opt to leave these in their vehicle the minute they start to walk to the sand. No matter what, it’s essential to have money with you, just in case you’d like to purchase food or drinks while you’re at the beach. In terms of having an ID, that’s important, too, for those “just in case” moments. Now, if you don’t feel confident leaving these items in your beach bag, you can invest in a secret bank which will keep them out of plain sight and give you peace of mind!

Cooler

If you’re planning on bringing snacks, bottles of water, and ice cream, then it’s best to have a cooler on deck. While some beachgoers might bring a large plastic cooler with them, you don’t have to go overboard — bring something small and compact to keep your necessities cold all day long. Another great tip is to keep ice packs (in addition to actual ice) in your cooler, which will come in handy just in case you need another way to cool off from the blistering sun!

Extra Clothes

Sometimes, your day can go a bit unexpected. Whether some rain comes your way or you and your friends opt to go out to dinner after the beach, it’s always best to bring an extra set of clothes. Another benefit of bringing spare clothes with you? If the sun gets too strong or you get too cold, you’ll already be prepared for the change in the forecast!

Sunglasses + Sunscreen

These might be standards for every beachgoer, but it’s essential to be reminded of how vital they are. Since even the weakest of the sun’s rays can be harmful to your body, it’s crucial to protect your eyes and your skin. When looking for sunglasses, opt to have those that have a high UV protection level or are polarized. In terms of sunscreen, whether it’s lotion or spray, it’s crucial to choose a sunscreen with an SPF between 15 and 50, which will give your skin the protection that it needs from those harmful UV rays!
