Independence Day is perhaps the
most important of all American holidays. That’s why we want everyone to enjoy
themselves to the fullest this upcoming holiday weekend. We've put our Travel Thursdays on hold to bring you this week's edition of Thirsty Thursday - featuring some fun 4th of July cocktails you’re sure to love!
1. Guy Fieri’s Fourth of July Cocktail- This refreshing drink posted at FoodNetwork.com
not only tastes magnificent, but also looks truly patriotic! To make it, you’ll
need:
- 1 ounce watermelon schnapps

- 1 very thin slice jalapeno or serrano pepper
- 1 slice lemon
- 1 slice lime
- 1 1/2 ounces tequila
- 1/4 ounce blue curacao
- 1/2 ounce simple syrup
- Watermelon wedge, for garnish (optional)
Combine the schnapps and
cranberry juice in a shaker, and then pour it into an ice-filled glass. Mix
together the jalapeno pepper, sliced lemon and lime, tequila, blue curacao and
simple syrup in the shaker. With a strainer, slowly pour the blue liquid over
the red layer. Don’t forget to garnish with watermelon!
2. Red, White, and Blue Sangria - Although not technically a
cocktail, it’s impossible to resist this star-spangled sangria from PunchBowl.com.
Pick up these ingredients:
- Strawberries, sliced
- Blueberries
- Pineapple, cut into star shapes
- 2 bottles dry white wine
- 1 cup Triple Sec
- 1/2 Cup berry-flavored vodka
- 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
- 1/2 cup simple syrup

chill in the ‘fridge for at least four hours.
3. Red, White and HPNOTIQ Blue Martini - This funky twist on a classic martini is sure to make you proud to be an
American. The recipe, pulled from BarNoneDrinks.com,
calls for:
- 2 oz. Hpnotiq
- 1 oz. Citrus Vodka
- 1 splash Lemon Lime Soda
- Grenadine
Shake Hpnotiq, vodka and soda
together with ice, and then strain into a martini glass. Slowly add a touch of
grenadine for a bold red base. Garnish with chopped coconut – yum!
4. Roosevelt Cocktail - Looking for something a bit more
classic this 4th of July? According to Liquor.com,
our 26th president, Teddy Roosevelt, enjoyed Mint Julep from time to
time. Meanwhile, his cousin, Franklin, was fond of martinis. Pay homage to the Roosevelts
by enjoying this presidential drink, which combines both styles:
- 1.75 oz Dark rum (Zacapa Rum 23)
- .5 oz Dry vermouth
- .25 oz Fresh orange juice
-
.25 tsp Sugar
Combine all ingredients in a shaker and fill with ice. Shake it up. Finally,
strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with an orange twist for the
complete presidential look.
